  • Plan for the year ahead

Submission Guidelines:

  • Target 1,500-2,000 words for each submission.
  • Organize the content with headers and subheaders (if necessary)
  • Make sure your primary keyword is included in your post title, first paragraph, at least one header and naturally throughout the post
  • Write a short meta description about your post (160 characters) that includes the primary keyword
  • Write your headlines in title case and all subheadings in sentence case.
  • For example, “How to Write a Great Email” is the title case
  • For example, “How to write a great email” is the sentence case
  • Write for readers who are full-time independent business owners
  • Write in active voice instead of passive voice to maintain an energetic tone
  • E.g:
    • Passive Voice - Your staff should be required to track their time.
    • Active Voice - You should require your staff to track their time.
  • Aim for a tone of voice that is upbeat, positive and helpful
  • We’re looking for action-oriented content that is educational. A good rule of thumb is to keep paragraphs between 3-4 sentences.

Best Practices for SEO Optimization:

  • Identify the primary keyword that you want to target with your post.
    • For example, “contact form mistakes” would be the primary keyword for “5 Contact Form Mistakes and How to Fix Them.
  • Make sure your primary keyword is included in your post title, first paragraph, at least one header and naturally throughout the post
  • Write a short meta description about your post (160 characters) that includes the primary keyword
  • When linking, use natural language instead of calls to action. For example: “These marketing tips and tools will help you perform an audit” instead of “Here’s a list of marketing tips and tools to perform an audit.”
  • We accept posts with natural links throughout that cite your research, but we reserve the editorial oversight to remove backlinks with no added value to our audience

For best chances of publication:

  • Follow the submission and SEO optimization guidelines.
  • Proofread and edit your submission for errors and clarity.
  • You may also submit additional resources, such as worksheets, graphics, or other tools intended for independent business owners that are related to the monthly topic and your area of expertise.
